The sculptor Saragt Babayev was born in 1948 in Sarakhs etrap, Akhal velayat. In 1970-1974 he studied art at the sculpture faculty of the Turkmen State Special Art School and in 1974-1980 at the Moscow Art Institute.
Saragt Babaev is a monumental and easel sculptor who creates memorable images from granite, wood, bronze and marble. He works in different genres. National motives are felt in his works. Involved in the artistic life of the country, he is engaged in teaching activities not only in art schools of the state, but also in workshops. Currently he is participating in the creation of monumental monuments of the country. Considering his merits in Turkmen art, the famous sculptor Saragt Babayev was awarded medals “Watana bolan söýüsi üçin” “Gaýrat” “Magtymguly Pyragy” , The International Prize of Turkmenistan named after Makhtumkuli is also several times the winner of the competition of the President of Turkmenistan “Türkmeniň Altyn asyry” of the competition “Türkmen bedewiniň iň gowy heykeli üçin“. He was awarded the honorary title of People’s Artist of Turkmenistan.
