Commemorative coin made in 1985 to honour Friedrich Engels’s 90th year of death (1895). The back of the coin reads:”Guard Regiment Friedrich Engels”.
The Wachregiment Friedrich Engels was part of the Nationale Volksarmee (People’s Army) and provided the guard of honour at the Neue Wache (New Guard). This building from 1818 was set up in 1960 as a monument to the victims of fascism and militarism.
