Desktop made in Hungary, 1984. WW2 freedom monument. Pedestal is made of aluminum with metal parts. Ribbon is original from the Pioneers. In gold letters it reads;”3975. II. Ferenc Rákóczi Pioneer Team”. On the 40th anniversary of the entry of the liberating Red Army in 1944 in Hungary, the Freedom Monument was inaugurated in Battonya in 1984.
According to the official position of that time, the Red Army first entered the country at Battonya on September 23, 1944. This is also indicated by the Freedom Monument in the city. The creator of the monument depicting the escape of a captive bird is the Prize-winning, meritorious artist-sculptor Madarassy Walter Munkácsy . The work of art was inaugurated on the thirtieth anniversary in 1974. After the change of regime, the statue was endangered, but in the end only the five-pointed star was removed.
