DDR pennant made in 1977. The text on the pennant reads:”His name is obligation”.
Georg Ewald (1926-1973) was a German politician (SED). He was Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Foodstuffs of the GDR. After attending agricultural school, Ewald worked on his parents’ farm until he was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1943.
From 1946 to 1949 Ewald worked on farms and became a member of the FDJ and SED in 1946. In 1949/1950 he was mayor of his home town and from 1950 to 1953 he was a district councilor for agriculture, a member of the Stralsund district council and a member of the SED district leadership. From 1954 to 1955 Ewald attended the party college and then worked as first secretary in the SED district administrations in Bad Doberan and Rügen. From 1960 to 1963, Ewald was first secretary of the SED district leadership in Neubrandenburg and a member of the district parliament, then a member of the Central Committee of the SED, candidate for the Politburo of the Central Committee of the SED and a member of the Presidium of the Council of Ministers. He was chairman of the Agricultural Council and the Council for Agricultural Production and Food Sector at the Council of Ministers and from 1971 to 1973 Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Food Sector of the GDR. Ewald died in a car accident near Gotha on September 14, 1973. His urn was buried in the Socialist Memorial at the Friedrichsfelde Central Cemetery in Berlin-Lichtenberg.
