Pin made in Soviet Russia. The pin shows the Tupolev ANT-37. The text on the pin reads:”Record long-range bomber aircraft”, and:”Women’s world record for straight line distance 50908 km. Grizodubova, Osipenko, Raskova 1938″.
The Tupolev ANT-37 (or DB-2) was a Soviet twin engined long range bomber designed and built by the Tupolev design bureau. The aircraft did not enter production, but three examples of the type were used for research and record breaking flights.
On 24–25 September 1938, the ANT-37 performed a nonstop flight between Moscow and the Sea of Okhotsk, setting a new women’s nonstop flight distance record. For this, they were the first three women made Heroes of the Soviet Union on 2 November 1938. The women on the plane were Valentina Grizodubova, Polina Osipenko and Marina Raskova.
