In the year 1000 King Stephen was the first king of Hungary and he is regarded as the founder of Hungary. On the 20th of august in 1083 he was decleared a saint. So this day is also known as St. Stephen’s Day. This day is still widly celebrated in Hungary and is a public holiday.
His year of birth is unknown but he died in 1038. He unified the country but after his death there was civil wars for decades.
